The Terrarium Challenge

Tenth college, UPM, 12 Jan 2021 – A program named The Terrarium Challenge was organised by Secretariat of Environment from 2 to 8 January 2021. Terrarium is a plant decoration which is planted in a bottle, container and other recycled things. The main objective for organising this program is to discover the creativity of participants by producing something with limited source and raising the awareness on the importance of mother nature among participants. Moreover, creating a community which emphasises on recycling practice was expected to be actualized by this program too.

A total of 76 students had registered to join this activity. Participants utilized recycled things like plastic bottles, glass and plastic containers and so on to build their own terrarium. Furthermore, participants also made use of small stones and used things like old toys to decorate their terrarium. In addition, all the participants were required to upload the photo of their terrarium that had been made via Instagram with hashtag #ttc_seask10. On 8 January 2021, the registration for this program was closed by the organiser.

This program was successfully implemented and overwhelming responses were received from the participants. The accomplishment of this program can be observed by the description of photos from participants’ Instagram in which their merrymaking throughout the process of creating the terrarium were included as well. In a nutshell, the aim of this program was successfully to be delivered to all the participants and also, the effort to boost the spirit of recycling and love for nature among the community was hoped to be continued in the future.
