Youth and Volunteers

The spirit of volunteerism is one of the important elements in forming national unity for a country to face the challenges that lie ahead, such as the Covid-19 pandemic. Volunteers can also be a yardstick with respect to the human nature that individual has. The appreciation of the spirit of volunteerism among the youth must be given emphasis. This is because volunteers without appreciation will not benefit the participants, especially in such a pandemic situation that it is difficult for us to convey the feeling of appreciation. This may also due to the youth that do not understand the definition of volunteering and its benefits. Volunteering can be defined as charitable and philanthropic work carried out by an individual or in a group towards those in need.

THE FOLLOWING ARE THE BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING:

1. Give a sense of satisfaction to the youth in carrying out volunteer activities.

It is common knowledge that the main purpose of volunteer activities is to spread a sense of joy together, especially people in need. Without any discrimination, all individuals in need are entitled to assistance. As a result, individuals who receive assistance will feel more loved by society. At the same time, the youths who provide these assistance or volunteers can engender a sense of excitement and satisfaction in themselves. For example, a volunteer activity by students of Universiti Putra Malaysia, UPM for a flood relief mission in Pahang. This shows that, this "win-win situation" that will arouse the desire to provide assistance to many more people need in the students.

2. Produce a sense of sincerity in the youth.

If the youths voluntarily give help to the community, they not only facilitate the lives of those who are helped but also cultivate themselves in a better direction. This is because, the sincerity in the youth to help the community without expecting rewards can be born through such activities. For example, recently Malaysia has been rocked by the efforts of a famous preacher of the country, Ustaz Ebit Lew who has succeeded in hundreds of aid in terms of food, drink, shelter and transportation regardless of age, race and religion. Therefore, the eyes and hearts of the youth will be opened to increase efforts in helping the community in need. Thus, the youths will feel honored to give help because every help given shows sincerity them.

3. Make new friends

Through volunteer activities, indirectly the youth will have the opportunity to add contacts between them. Therefore, these volunteer members will feel enthusiastic and enthusiastic while carrying out volunteer activities because they are with their friends who share the same interests in giving help to others. This is triggered when conducting youth volunteer activities can also increase the community network "Networking" where they can exchange opinions and experiences with volunteer members. Thus, through this volunteer activity, the youth can not only provide assistance to those in need but also can add more contacts who have common interests and goals.

Overall, this volunteer activity can provide many benefits not only to the youth but to all involved regardless of who gives and who receives. With this, it is hoped that the spirit of volunteerism will continue to remain and become more intact
